On June 2 I attended the Google Apps Roadshow in Melbourne. If you don’t know, Google Apps is a suite of web based productivity tools such as Gmail and Google Docs. As a long time user of Google Apps for my own productivity and also collaboration with students and colleagues, I found myself sitting back during the first half of the presentation thinking “Yeah, yeah, been there, done that”.
But this presentation was aimed at enterprise. Google wants big business to abandon their current productivity suites (not looking at anyone in particular, Microsoft Office), and the costs and maintenance associated with keeping them, and move all of this into ‘the cloud’.
